4 Ways a Professional Roofer Inspects Your Roof

Your roofing system is the first line of defense for any home, and, as such, it’s vital that the system is well-maintained. That way, it won’t sustain major damage and cause further issues for your home. One way you can ensure that your roof is properly cared for is by having an expert roofer inspect the system every now and then. But how exactly do they inspect a roof?

Here are the four different ways an expert roofer will inspect your roof.

  1. Interior inspection – Roof leaks are a major problem; they can cause significant damage to your home if left unattended. Therefore, when you have roofers inspect your roof, you can expect them to perform an interior inspection to check the ceilings, attic and interior walls to check for signs that water has made its way into your home.
  2. Structural inspection – Apart from inspecting your home’s interior, your roofing contractor will also check the roofing system for uneven planes and signs of sagging. This is known as a structural inspection. During this process, the roofer will also check on the conditions of the soffit, fascia, gutters and even your chimney’s masonry to see if anything needs to be repaired or replaced. If needed, the contractor will also check if your attic is properly ventilated.
  3. Workmanship inspection – Another form of inspection that you can expect from your roofers is the workmanship inspection. When the contractor is doing this, the inspector will examine the roof for any issues in the workmanship that can increase the risk of roofing problems in the future. If any are found, the problems will be rectified as soon as possible.
  4. Material inspection – On the other hand, during the material inspection, the inspectors will be searching for loose, missing or curling shingles as well as stains, moss growth, and missing flashing. That way, they can determine if these materials are in need of repairs or replacements.
